Rules for Mixed Competitions

General Rules

Men always play off White Tees and Ladies always play off Red Tees

All competitions are Non-Qualifying for handicap purposes except Members' Day Individual Stablefords

All handicap allowance calculations are rounded to the nearest whole number (0.5 rounded up) except for the Abbey Cup and Dixon Bowl (see below)

Note that Major Competition Rules apply to entry into the Athorn Cup, the Mixed Shield, the Abbey Cup and the Dixon Bowl.

Rules for each Competition

Members' Day (Individual Stableford)

Play off own Par and Stroke Index

Men use Playing Handicap: Ladies use Playing Handicap + 1 stroke

Ladies v Men - Seniors, Rabbits, President v Captain, President’s Challenge and the Christmas Fiddle

All are 4 Ball Betterball events

Play off own Par and Stroke Index

Men use 90% of Playing Handicap: Ladies add 1 stroke then use 90%

Note that when Men play off White Mats e.g. Christmas Fiddle, Ladies add 2 strokes before using 90%

Members' Day (AmAm) and Captains’ Drive-In (AmAm)

These are all 4 Ball Betterball Stableford events.

Play off own Par and Stroke Index

Men use 90% of Playing Handicap: Ladies add 1 stroke then use 90%

Athorn Cup Better Ball Match Play Knockout

Play off own Par and Stroke Index..

Ladies add 3 extra shots to their Playing Handicap.

The back marker (lowest of the 4 handicaps) concedes strokes to the other 3 players based on 90% of the difference between the full handicaps

Mixed Shield Aggregate Stableford (Points combined)

Play off own Par and Stroke Index

Men use 90% of Playing Handicap: Ladies add 1 stroke then use 90%

Abbey Cup Greensomes Stroke Play (as Foursomes except all tee off)

Ladies add 3 strokes to their Playing Handicap

The partnership’s Competition Handicap Allowance (taken off their total gross score) is calculated using the chart in Appendix F (CONGU Handbook (i.e. lower handicap x 0.6 plus higher handicap x 0.4) – use exact resulting handicap without rounding

Dixon Bowl Foursomes Stroke Play (Alternate tee shots then alternate shots)

Ladies add 3 extra shots to their Playing Handicap

The partnership’s Competition Handicap Allowance (taken off their total gross score) is ½ their aggregate handicaps. Note that ½ strokes are counted as such.
